My favorite sub shop. Family owned and operated. Everyone is very friendly. They use bread from a great bakery in Tampa. And the locals will keep coming back for their homemade potato salad, macaroni salad, and my favorite - cole slaw. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. Get their signature "Yum Yum Club".

In the 50's and 60's, my family lived not far from Williams Sub Shop and, maybe once a month, Dad would ask - "who wants a sub?" Off he'd go to Williams and come home with a couple of the most wonderfully fragrant, stuffed full, Italian subs. Fast forward 40-50 years - whenever I visit St. Pete from my home in Northern Virginia, I ALWAYS make a pilgrimage to Williams for a sub. It typically keeps me going, lunch-wise, for a couple of days, but the tasty memories are with me forever!

I saw some high reviews on Yelp, and decided to check this place out on my way to the beach. There was literally a crowd out the door when I showed up. Good sign? First of all, the menu is pretty unimaginative. I didn't see anything remotely creative that screamed out, "Order me!" The sandwich that I was ate was decent, but not what I ordered. I didn't bother to take it back, given the volume of people waiting. As I sat there for 20 minutes waiting for my order, I observed that a large part of the problem was how inefficient the staff were. One staff member was taking an order, filling a different order, taking a payment, making a sandwich or two, and then repeating. Specialization might speed up the process. By the way, if you order a sandwich "hot," it appears that it's getting popped into a tiny microwave. If they remember your order, that is.

I have been eating here for 25+ years. I only order a Super with everything on it and a side of Greek Potato Salad. So so delicious!! The ladies who run William's are great. They are super fast and everything is fresh. I always call our subs in and pick them -- there is always a mad rush at lunch time and the shop is small. If you haven't grabbed a Super here, you're missing out. Get your sub all the way with the hot pepper relish-it's seriously good!!

The absolute best sandwich shop I have ever been to in my life (local, chain, or anything else). The hot pickle relish, and the red hot tomato w/ onion dressing is just to die for. All three of the traditional subs are very good just with different types and amounts of meat and cheese. This is one of my favorite places to eat of all time and even better is that it is local plus very casual. Can't wait to go back to Florida to eat here again. Food taste score: 9.5/10

Great local sandwich shop, I go there more if I were closer. Highly recommend for a lunch type place. Much better than a chain sub place.

Traveled across this country and have never found anything remotely close to the meatball supreme with the spicy relish. Can't go there with my mom. She gets a smack every time because it's so dang good.

Oh! My! God! Ever since I've eaten here, I have never thought of subs the same again. They are absolutely amazing!! Been open for over 20 years. All the employees know their regulars (I just have to walk in and they ask me my regular order). So great of a place, I have to keep it a secret when I go there without my father because he gets jealous. It's definitely "that place". The one you drove by, never really notice. But it's definitely a place ran with passion. All the meats are thin, deli sliced. Rolls don't taste like they've been sitting out all day (ha! Take that subway!), cheese is shredded mozzarella I think. Also provide sides such as macaroni salad and such. Also, if you ask, they will give you a card that once is filled, you get a free sub. Definitely family owned and operated. Every person that I have taken there has become a customer for life.

For a Mom-and-Pop sub shop, this is about as good as it gets! I actually learned of this joint from my Mom, who used to love the subs here when she was in high school... (Mom is now 65+)! If they have been around that long, they have to be doing things right. My favorite is their simple Italian sub. It's one of the best I've ever had! Please do try it sometime with the pepper relish. It's not too hot, but has a small kick and bite that goes really well with this sandwich. They definitely care about quality here. A few times over the years, they've had a sign making customers aware of small upcharge (50 cents or so?) if you want tomatoes on your sub. That's a good thing! I'd rather pay a bit more for red, ripe tomatoes than those lousy hard, pink ones served FAR too often in fast food places. Both of their potato salads here are also great, obviously homemade, and well worth a try. Yes it is cash-only, but they make it very clear here and get bonus points for having an ATM on-site. Finally, great food draws large crowds. Peak dining hours can get very busy here, but your sub will be worth the wait... I am always looking forward to my next Williams sub!

Cash only. They do have an ATM in the back she said. I asked what was good and she told me the [something something] club. So much flavor! She put the peppers on the side. Next time I will get them on it, unless I share with kids. They loved it too! She asked if I wanted it warmed. I hesitated and she continued by telling me she microwaves it if i want. That turned me off a little. That should be kept a secret or mystery. Since it was to go, I declined. I got my kids a tuna to split. She intuitively asked if I wanted it cut into thirds. Yes, thank you! She asked if I wanted anything else on it, sorta assuming I would say no it seemed. I wish i would have asked for lettuce and tomato. The tuna salad was piled on there though! Soo much! I could have done with half, but most guys would probably love it. Small place. Old school. Bring cash.

What can I say. It's a sub shop that's been in business over 50 years. Simply the best. Love the Yum Yum Club. cold all the way with hot relish on the side. They only take cash but there is an ATM. Do we really need to finance a sandwich? Everything is fresh and tastes great. Service is always friendly I will admit that it is not last meal worthy, but it's close.

First, this place is cash only. They have an ATM in the back if you aren't prepared. It is also located in the same plaza with a Mattress firm if you can't find it across the street (38th Ave N) from the gas station. It's a small shop in the corner of a building. I had their "almost famous" "Yum Yum" club served "All the Way." All the Way means they add this tomato-salsa-like sauce with tomatoes, onions, dill pickle relish, oil, and spices. You can also get lettuce, banana peppers, vinegar, mayo, mustard, and/or black olives by request. I think I am going to ask for lettuce, banana peppers, and vinegar next time I come. It can also be served hot or cold. For the Yum Yum sandwich, it was quite tasty and the sub is large enough to be split into two meals or shared with someone. It was moist from the sauce. The meats were juicy. Yum Yum has roast beef, turket breast, ham, and bacon. The bacon was crispy! I think I will be coming here again sometime to try their other subs and food! I also, got my sub in less than 5 minutes after ordering it. You can also call in your order if you are in a hurry. I would recommend giving this place a try.

I've loved this place for years! (Decades actually!). Reasonably priced, busy lunch hour means fresh ingredients, friendly staff and delicious subs and sandwiches. Parking can get hectic the Noon time hours. Love the Yum Yum and Roast Beef subs!! Owner Jean maintains quality and consistency throughout the years. I like to dine in or get some to take with us on our boating or beach adventures.

As soon as I walked in, I noticed it was cash only. There's an ATM in the back that charges so you can take out cash. The atmosphere is very outdated, and very plain. So I would suggest taking out your food. The ladies at the counter still bantered with each other while I was being paid out; talking about losing a lighter, and called her daughter a "heifer" infront of me. The customer service was inappropriate and hardly sufficient. They talk very loudly in this small store. I got the ham and cheese, with extra cheese. They put shredded mozzarella on my ham and cheese... What in the world?... The lettuce tasted very watery and it just didn't have any flavor or taste. I'm glad I got mayo, it helped. The bread is soft which is nice. I don't think I'll be returning or telling friends to come here.

Oh Williams Subs, how I love thee. The meatball sub is killer and the yum yum lives up to its name. The bread they use is wicked, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, just what sub bread should be. Williams offers just a handful of subs but they are all delicious. If you get a chance, their red bliss potato salad is incredible. Highly highly highly recommend. BRING CASH! Cash only. Atm on site.

The sandwiches are topped with fresh ripe tomatoes, onion, dill relish, oil, hot pepper relish, spices. I like it with and with out the hot pepper relish, depends on my mood. This topping combination makes for the best sub I've had anywhere. Hot pepper relish is really hot if you dont like hot stuff and I would consider it in the medium range if you like hot food. The bread they use is outstanding. The inside is very clean and very dated it has looked the same probably since the year it opened 50 years ago. You come to Williams for a sandwich and if your a local its always a blast from the past. It always puts me in a good mood. The same ladies have been working the counter including the owner for as long as I can remember. Its CASH ONLY. I always get the Jumbo or Italian the way it normally comes with out hot pepper relish or I recommend the Yum Yum Club for your first visit. Williams subs is right off of the Pinellas Trail so it's a great place to stop for lunch with out having go more than 20' from the bike trail.

Great subs, don't get their Cuban if you know what a good one taste like. Their Cuban taste good except it doesn't taste like one, try their yum yum toasted.

This place has become my new favorite lunch spot! I have to come one to two times a week- it's that good! I get the yum yum sub with no relish each time.. I love their bacon (they make it extremely crispy), their bread, & their peppers! Can't get enough of this place! The ladies have been extremely sweet to me, but they look like people I wouldn't want to piss off either. Make sure to call ahead.. They can get extremely busy in the lunch rush.

I was told by a coworker about this place, but I never came because I really liked a competitor's sandwich. I don't know what it is about William's subs, but this place is awesome!!! I got the yum yum club, and I ate almost every bite!! The staff are super friendly, and the cookies are homemade. The prices are reasonable. You've gotta try this place!!!

I have been coming to Williams Subs for over 20 years and it is the ONLY place I would ever recommend someone to go to get a good sub. I know when I order their famous "yum yum", that it will come the exact same way every single time...perfect! If anyone can complain about the decor, the personalities of the employees or that they only accept cash, they should go down the street to Jimmy Johns or one of several other chains in the area, and use their debit card for a sub par sandwich that will certainly be forgotten in an hour or so. These things are what make Williams feel like a second home, the reason people have been coming regularly for decades. If you want a phenomenal sandwich that you'll be telling all your friends about, go to Williams.

These guys get it done plain and simple. Best hot relish ever. The Yum Yum Club is amazing. Go with extra bacon for the ultimate experience. Been going here for over 20 yrs and never had a bad sub.

The sandwiches here are fantastic! The relish that came on my sub was PHENOMENAL! I asked one of the girls behind the counter, and she informed me that they make it in house. I'm not a huge condiments type of person, but this relish certainly did the trick. The only reason I couldn't give this establishment 5 stars was due to its lack of ambiance. Its a clean establishment, and they do have a few small booths inside if you choose to dine in. However, this place is clearly take out oriented, and as a result, their dining room is somewhat lack luster. With that being said, if you're in the area, and want a sandwich on the go, then make sure you stop by Wilson's. You won't be disappointed.

Service is excellent...food is great..priced reasonably the yum-yum sub is a must try.hard to find a better sub locally i highly recommend this sub shop....

Too bad they enver get an order right! ORder it without tomatoes, too bad, you get them anyway. Order it without the topping/mix they insist on putting on every sandwich, too bad, you'll get it too! Sure the bread is fresh and the greens are cold and crisp but if my sandiwch is never made right, what do I care about the toppings?!

Why do any sub shops even bother to open near this place? It is always the best for 50 years!

  • Kyla V.

I can't remember the last time I had a sandwich this good. The bread is so soft and the hot pepper relish is fantastic. Be sure to bring cash but there's an ATM in the store. There's a few booths inside but it's pretty small. I can imagine it gets crowded during lunch and dinner time.

If I ever find myself on death row, the "Yum Yum Club" will be my last meal. They have a large selection of sandwiches, but I've never tried another one. Get it all the way, with hot pepper relish! Bring cash, no cards here, just amazing subs for the last 55+ years.

  • Andy S.

Once you eat here you will regret ever having gone anywhere else for a sub. The Yum Yum Club is my favorite and is made with bacon and turkey and I think one other meat. I would suggest any sub you order from them request "light mayonnaise" because they can be a little heavy handed. Don't know where they get their bread from but it's soooo good. Note they are cash only. Call in your order when you're 10-15 minutes away to avoid a long wait.

Love it! The woman behind the counter was friendly, and the foods was amazing... Yes it's a sub shop, but it's got some unique items like stuffed tomatoes. The salads are amazing, real sweet Cole slaw, Greek potato salad( that I haven't had in at least 10 years... When I was in NY). I'd highly recommend going here, and just outright drop subway, jimmy johns, etc.... oh and the price for the amount of food is good. I bought a stuffed tomato meal, and had left overs for lunch for today. ( and I'm not exactly a light Eater). All in all, I will be returning, and trying more. :-)

I live over in Tampa and drove over to the area to go to a specific shop and happened upon William's Sub Shop for lunch. What an amazing place! I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful this place is! I had the Turkey Supreme Sub and LOVED it! The hot pepper mix is a must for sure! The customer service is AMAZING as well. A very friendly and down to earth staff made me feel right at home. I would highly recommend this sub shop over any other in St Pete! Thanks you guys :0)
